Experts have forecasted that Russia's gross grain harvest in 2010 will be at the level of 2009, or at about 95-97 million tonnes. In 2009, Russian farmers harvested 97 million tonnes of grain, an official at the Russian Agriculture Ministry reminded on Tuesday.

Russian budget suffers huge losses because of the surplus of grain the state granaries have to keep, Moscow's business daily Kommersant reported on Wednesday. Prime Minister Vladimir Putin ordered his deputy Victor Zubkov "to think about the very daring ideas" on where to dispose those excessive stocks. The keeping of grain stocks costs federal budget nearly 1 billion rubles (about 30 million U.S. dollars) per month.

Several bilateral documents were signed during the National Exhibition of Belarus which was recently held in Azerbaijan. These include the protocol of intent between Belarusian State University and Silvesberg engineering consulting service. The sides expressed their interest in cooperation in biofuel production, microwave technologies in agriculture and production of sorbents for gathering accidental oil spills. Belarusian State University and Baku State University of Azerbaijan signed memorandum of cooperation. The memorandum envisages partnership in scientific and education areas, including exchange of students, teaching stuff and scientists.

According to ANBA: A global initiative has started defining indices and criteria for the development of the biofuel sector worldwide. Representatives of the G8, the group that includes Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Russia, the United Kingdom and the United States, together with some developing nations, like Brazil and Sudan, have met in Tunis, the capital of Tunisia, to establish criteria for sustainability that may become a reference in public policies in the area of bioenergy. The meeting began on Wednesday (5th) and ends tomorrow. The meeting is promoted by the technical group of the Global Bioenergy Partnership (GBEP), an initiative of the G8. Brazil is represented by the Sugarcane and Agribusiness director at the Ministry of Agriculture, Alexandre Strapasson. According to him, the talks progressed significantly in Tunis, but the list of indices should not be concluded.

The bio fuel will replace the mineral resources to produce the fuel in the future. The bio fuel development entered the stage of commercial application, a leading Russian chemist, Academician Ilya Moiseyev said at a meeting of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS) presidium here on Wednesday. Currently, the methods to turn the biomass into ethanol and motor fuels are under development. Bacteriae are playing the role of major reprocessing agents.

Majilis Parliament of Kazakhstan approved the draft of law on state regulation of production and turnover of biofuels
Members of the Majlis Kazakhstan today at the plenary session approved the third reading of the draft laws "On state regulation of biofuel production and trafficking" and "On introducing changes and amendments to some legislative acts of the Republic of Kazakhstan on state regulation of production and trafficking of biofuels." Finally, the Committee of Majilis on Agrarian Affairs stated that the purpose of legislation is the environment, development of production and trafficking of biofuels, food security of the State in the production of biofuels.

Brazil is interested in the creation of a Ukrainian-Brazilian joint venture for biofuel production in Ukraine. This issue was discussed at the Ukrainian-Brazilian talks in Kyiv, the Ukrainian Agriculture Ministry's press service has reported.

U.S. wheat production and slumping exports will continue to fade in coming years due to increasing competition in the global marketplace from lower-cost producers in the Black Sea region, grain analysts said at the Reuters Food and Agriculture Summit in Chicago. Russia, the largest of the Black Sea producers, has invested heavily in port facilities and grain handling infrastructure in recent years, allowing it to challenge the United States as the world's top supplier of the grain.
